Runako Inside Out with Mufaro Mazodze

Inside Out is our monthly profile on people and all things personal care. Our profiles will look into different aspects of personal care including physical, skin, mental and health care. We want to know how you’ve been taking care of yourself inside and out and help us share tips, tricks and advice with others.

This week we feature Mufaro Mazode, an aspiring Chartered Accountant based in CapeTown, South Africa. Beside the boring parts of her life (her words) Mufaro is an avid vlogger with her own YouTube channel, ‘Mufaro Mazodze,’ where she gets to have fun, share beauty and lifestyle tips.

Runako: How are you? Especially now with the on-going coronavirus pandemic?

Mufaro: The pandemic has caused a lot of chaos and a lot of delays. However, I have used the extra time to focus on my personal goals. I am trying to see it as a blessing in disguise

Runako: How have you been taking care of your mental health? Have you implemented any changes to your personal routine?

Mufaro: As an accounting student I have always put my mental health first. Being a student can be very emotionally draining. So I keep a balance by making videos on my YouTube channel. Giving myself a day off. Exercising and healthy eating is also very helpful for my mental health. My personal goals include getting my Youtube channel monetized, hoping it will grow and continue to make a positive influence. Working on my toxic traits. Learning Self love by learning to know my worth.

Runako: How have you been taking care of your physical health? If not, why?

Mufaro: I try my best to exercise regularly. This week I have actually been consistent. 30 to 40 minutes of exercise everyday, because I am stuck in the house 24/7.

Runako: We can’t forget about skincare, how has your skincare routine been during the quarantine? Any significant changes?

Mufaro: My skincare routine has not changed much. It is usually influenced by the products that are available for me to use. I like to use a turmeric mask here and there.

Runako: What are some of those products?

Mufaro:  I use a lot of Nivea products, a lot of them Nivea South Africa sent to me. I often use what I have available, like my moms cleansers I have learnt a lot about most products from my mother. But Nivea's products tend to be gentle on my skin and not too harsh. Skincare products are expensive. Why the issue of availability? I don't always have the money to spend on the skincare products I actually want to try or use.

Runako: What are some products you’ve been loving and using?

Mufaro: I recently tried using Shea butter on my face. It really helps me because I have really dry skin. It even cracks and peels on bad days. So a good moisturizer goes a long way

Runako: Any natural skin care tips or products you’ve tried and are now part of your personal routine?

Mufaro: I recently tried using Shea butter on my face. It really helps me because I have really dry skin. It even cracks and peels on bad days. So a good moisturizer goes a long way.

Runako: Any natural skin care tips or products you’ve tried and are now part of your personal routine?

Mufaro: Drinking water, exercising and staying away from sugar. Trying not to stress is honestly some of the best natural ways I have found that actually work.

Runako: Do you have any go-to DIY skincare recipes or combinations that you can share?

Mike: Nah, I use a lot of premade face wash and face mask products. I’m willing to pick up on a couple though, so if someone is willing to share, they should definitely hit me up.

Runako: What’s a must in your personal care routine? (Don’t be shy)

Mufaro: Turmeric mask is one of the easiest. Just mix about a tablespoon of turmeric powder with a bit of water, a teaspoon. You can add some plain yoghurt honey or lemon.

Runako: Any advice, tips or tricks you want to share? Something you might have discovered recently that might help someone reading this?

Mufaro: Roll on is a must! There is a lot more I can mention. Of course roll on after showering. I don't need deodorant or perfume if I use my roll on.

Teatree Oil is a lifesaver. Especially if you are prone to HS flare ups, ingrown hairs from shaving etc.

Runako: Any New Year resolutions you may want to share?

Mufaro: My New Year's resolution is to keep challenging myself to learn, to improve myself, improve my relationships with friends and family. To be a better person.
